Good practice guidance: extraction by dredging of aggregates from England’s seabed

This good practice guidance, produced by the British Marine Aggregate Producers Association and The Crown Estate, replaces the former Marine Minerals Guidance on dredging from the English seabed. It explains how the marine aggregate industry operates and sets out the planning, licensing, environmental assessment, monitoring, mitigation and management measures used to protect the environment, safeguard seabed interests and support long-term sustainability.

UK marine policy statement

The Marine Policy Statement provides the overarching framework for marine planning and decision-making across the UK marine area, supporting sustainable development. It was adopted under section 44 of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009, with guidance issued from January 2020 clarifying how references to EU law should be interpreted following the UK’s withdrawal from the EU.
