Solid Wall Insulation Requirements
If you're looking to improve your solid walls by adding insulation, you need to ensure it meets specific minimum energy efficiency values. These are outlined in the official guidance known as the 'Approved Documents'. However, if achieving these exact figures proves impossible due to technical or practical reasons, don't worry. You should then install the highest standard of insulation that is achievable, provided the initial investment can be repaid through energy savings within a straightforward period of no more than 15 years.
Are you planning to renovate a substantial portion of your external solid wall? If your project covers 25 per cent or more of its surface, then Building Regulations will typically apply. This means your wall's heat insulation must comply with the standards set out in those same 'Approved Documents'. When we talk about 'renovation' here, we mean adding a completely new layer or replacing an existing one. Just applying decorative finishes, such as a fresh coat of paint, is not considered a renovation in this context.
